BOAZ COMMUNITY CORPORATION

In response to the growing number of immigrants in New Brunswick and
surrounding communities, The Jubilee Center of Christ Church has
initiated the creation of the Boaz Community Corporation, Inc., to provide
immigration education and counseling services.  Founded in 1742, Christ
Church has a long history of ministry to community members in need.  
Recognizing that immigrants now make up almost a fourth of city
residents, Boaz aims to support the integration of the newest members of
our community through the provision of immigration and naturalization
services.  In addition, Boaz aspires to educate all area residents about the
opportunities and challenges current immigration policy presents.  

The principal activities of Boaz are as follows:

1)        COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The Boaz Community Corporation offers information and orientation
about immigration services to members of the immigrant community,
service providers, and others.  These educational activities include
seminars on immigrant rights and responsibilities as well as updates on
immigration legislation and opportunities.

2)        INDIVIDUAL ADVOCACY
The Boaz Community Corporation will offer counseling and immigration
services to individual immigrants.  Under the supervision of an attorney,
Boaz will assist clients in taking the steps necessary towards legalization
and naturalization.  Assistance will include completion of immigration
applications, legal counsel and referrals to area immigration lawyers.

3)        PARISH EDUCATION
Boaz maintains regular contact with the entire parish family of Christ
Church.  Boaz provides continual reports on services provided, seminars on
immigration law and regulation, and information on the challenges
immigrants in the community face.

Como respuesta al crecimiento del número de inmigrantes en New Brunswick y
las comunidades alrededor, el “Centro Jubiloso” de la Iglesia de Cristo inició la
creación de la Corporación Comunitária “Boaz” para educación y consejería de
inmigración.  Fundado en 1742, la Iglesia de Cristo tiene una larga historia de
ministería a los miembros de la comunidad necesistados.  En reconocimiento del
hecho de que los inmigrantes representan cerca a una cuarta parte de los residentes
de esta ciudad, Boaz aspira apoyar la integración en la comunidad de estos recién
llegados al adquirir los beneficios de legalización y naturalización.  Aun mas, Boaz
tiene como objetivo educar a todos los residentes, ambos inmigrantes y no-
inmigrantes igualmente, sobre la inmigración actual.  

Las actividades principales de Boaz son:

1)        Alcances de la Comunidad
La Corporación Comunitária Boaz ofrece información e orientación a los
miembros de la communidad inmigrante, los que trabajan con la población
inmigrante actual, y otros.  Estas actividades educativas incluyen seminarios sobre
los derechos y responsibilidades de los inmigrantes y también cursos sobre las
leyes de inmigración.

2)        Consejería Individual
La Corporación Comunitária Boaz ofrecerá consejería y servicios de inmigración a
tráves de aportes individuales.  Bajo la supervisión de una abogada, Boaz proveerá
asistencia a clientes ayudandolos a tomar los pasos necesarios para la legalización
y la ciudadania. Este incluye asistencia con solicitudes y aplicaciones, así como
también consejo legal y referidos a abogados con experiencia en inmigración.

3)        Educación Parroquial
Para unir la fe con la acción social, Boaz mantiene contacto regular con la familia
entera de la parroquía de la Iglesia de Cristo por medio de reportes continuos
sobre el progreso del proyecto, programas sobre los problemas mostrados por
inmigrantes, y el estado actual de la ley y regulaciones de inmigración.
